Monogram card

A friend of mine asked me to make her cards with a monogram which I hesitated to do because I don't have a good way to do monograms. I used the JustRite stamp that I have which I am sorry to say is very hard to get a good stamp with. The stamping gods must have been with me because I came up with a great looking card, and am excited to see if it is what my friend is looking for!

Pool Party paper embossed with the Baroque Motifs stamp with clear ep. The frame is made with textured Early Espresso embossed with the Saleabration embossing frame. So Saffron butterflies cut with Beautiful Wings embosslits and one little pearl.

I hope this inspires you to make something today!

Stampin'Up! Edgelits

Here is a great way to use the new Edgelits from Stampin'Up! This card is made using the Adorning Accents edgelits die, Bordering on Romance stamp set, and the Beautiful Wings embosslits. The pattern can be used for many different looks by just changing the butterflies to hearts for Valentines, or flowers for anything- you pick the greeting.

These are samples of cards we made at our last workshop. Try using the pattern to make your own card.

So Stinkin' cute - punch skunk nugget holder

I am going to do the best to give you a tutorial on how to make this cute skunk. I saw the idea at Danee Hoangs blog site. Mine is a little different than hers, but it is still stinkin' cute!

Cut a strip of black card stock 1 1/2 inch by 5 1/2 inch. Score at 2 and 3 inches. You will need two large white petals, one small white petal, and one oval. (its hard to see the writing)

Punch these pieces using the Word Window punch, Ornament punch, Large oval punch, Blossom Petal Builder punch
The Heart can be any heart punch or the new Framelits, you will also need a round pink circle- mine came from the Owl builder punch.

The top half will be the centers of the ears, the bottom half will be the stripe in the tail.

Trim the ornament "holder" off the ornament. Glue the small white petal to the ornament.

Glue the top half of the large petal to the small black petal- do two for the ears.Trim the extra white.

Glue the ears to the back of the head, and the oval to the top of the strip. Glue the oval above the score line.

Cut the word window in half and glue ends to back, then bend to come around the front, glue heart in hands. If your heart is smaller, you may need two word window punches to make the hands long enough to hold the heart.

Glue the bottom of the large white petal to the large black petal for the tail. Trim the extra white.

Glue the tail on the back, the pink nose, and googlies eyes!

Fold on score lines and tape the back together making a pocket for the nugget.

I hope you have a clever saying to go with your skunk like: Your so stinkin' cute! or I Love You so Stinkin' Much... you get the idea!

I hope everyone is having a happy and productive new year. My family headed out west for a fun ski trip after a great Christmas. The boys went to school as soon as we got home, and I started everyone on their New Years resolutions (that I had made for them)! So far the boys have been to bed earlier, but are not doing a great job of getting up earlier. David spent all day organizing his home office. My goal for this house is to have all of his electronic things together so when we want to watch one of our videos we can- without two hours of searching for a connecting wire, then a trip to Radio Shack to buy the piece we cannot find. I finally got the new hall closet organized -and labeled!

I hope you are thinking about how you will make this year a better year, and if you need some help, let me suggest some things...

Quick and cute

These were some of my favorite tags made with some scraps of decorative paper. I added the cardstock punch to the front and To/From on the back and the tab on the top which gave it stability. These could be made from paper to match your wrapping paper- wonder if they could be made out of wrapping paper.....?

A month of Christmas Tags?

I made Christmas tags to sell at the Holiday House at my church this past weekend. Thank goodness I took pictures because I sold all of them! I am going to share a few with you. Some are original ideas, others copied. Tags are fun to make and give as hostess gifts!

Have you noticed the beautiful trees as you drive around town. Our favorite tree has been 'turned on' again. It looks like someone flipped the switch and it is glowing!

This card uses the beautiful Gently Falling set and Hand Penned from the mini catalog. I took the Spice Cake designer series paper and punched circles to go behind the Lace Border punch. I like the way it makes the punch pop off the card!

My goal for the weekend was to get started on the cards I will sell in the upcoming Bazaar my church is having. I got one whole package of cards made! I was inspired by a card made by Laura Lin using this set and colors. I changed this one up a little. The card base is Wisteria Wonder. I ran the Very Vanilla through he Big Shot with the Lattice embossing folder. The image is stamped with StazOn black then I gave the flower the softest touch of color with Wisteria Wonder and Mellow Moss ink. I like the simple elegance of this card.

Fall is in the Air

Just to tickle your "Fall-y" bone, I put together this card using the Spice Cake designer series paper featured in the Holiday Mini. You get 12 sheets of double sided paper for $10.95 and they all coordinate beautifully. I used the Button Buddy set to stamp the pumpkin, then added a button on top. I really liked the patch of burlap, and just used a strand of the burlap to tie the bow in the button. Simple but pretty. I think the best part of this card is that it uses Pool Party for the base- I love that color. I may have to come up with a great Christmas card using Pool Party and red....

Deer Antler Coffee Table

I hate to admit it, but I am a dumpster diver and have raised a kid who dives too, so when Blair brought home a huge pile of deer antlers from the side of the road, my mind started whirling. I have been looking for a coffee table to go in our family room. So when my favorite handyman came to visit- we got to work making my idea come to life.

First we put all the antlers in a bunch trying to make them look good from all sides.

Then we wired and screwed them together.

My favorite handyman- my Dad- used the saw to trim the "brains" as even as possible.

The hardest part was shimming it up so the board we wanted to use would lie flat.

Finally, we were pleased with the results! We screwed everything together...

and tried it out in the family room. This was just an old top that I had from another table. I purchased a piece of birch wood from Lowes, sanded it down...
added iron- on veneer (this is my other favorite handyman)...

and stained it all.

Now it is at home in the family room. I love the rustic look with the rest of my furnishings.

Halloween Fun

I was playing around in the craft room with my favorite Halloween stamp set of all time- Wicked Cool, and came up with this fun and easy card. I stamped the bats in the upper portion of the card by using a full inked stamp then stamping again without reinking. The Witch is orange tulle layered and bunched up with the Stampin'Up! black waffle paper over it. I pinched it all at the top then tied the ribbon around it. I clipped and tucked as needed, then stuck it all down with glue dots. The boots were stamped under the cape, and the hat on Pumpkin Pie card stock. For the final touch, I squirt Dazzling Details on the hat before I cut it out.

Sour Cream treat holders

At the last workshop we made these great treat holders that look like sour cream containers. They are super easy to make, and fun to decorate for whatever event you got going on.
What you need to know are the basics- then you can have fun. The containers that are pictured here start with a piece of 5 1/4' x 4 1/4" card stock (you can use decorative paper too). In both cases the paper was run through the Big Shot in an embossing folder. Then you tape up the short side so the paper makes a tube. Use good tape so they don't pop open. Pick one end to tape closed. If you want to add ribbon or some decorative

paper, stick it in the opening before you tape it closed. Now pay close attention. Fill your container with a treat, then pinch the open end closed so that it is perpendicular to the first closing. It should look like a sour cream holder. Use your good sticky tape to close this end. You can decorate the outside with fabric, ribbon, or tags. The container to the left was copied from Stampin'Up!. I used the new Spice Cake Designer Fabric to make a ribbon, added a Pool Party tag, and tied a Big button on with the Linen Thread. All Supplies can be ordered on my SU web site.
The Halloween container is a little different in that I punched a hole in the paper before rolling it into a tube, then taped a window sheet over the hole. The rest is all the same, I just changed the decorations. It was so cute filled with Fall color M&Ms and candy corns, but I ate them before I took the picture!

Another Halloween Card

I love making Halloween cards, and have spent way too much time in the craft room trying to make this one work! Finally, I am ready to share it's greatness with you! (We will be making this one in the workshop this week!) This card features the new Bigz L Die from Stampin'Up! called Peekaboo Frames, and the Simply Scored, both of which are in the Holiday Mini catalog.

What a surprise when you lift the frame opening to find a spooky message!

I squirt a little Dazzling Details on the witch's stockings just for fun.

The other secret on this card is the way I altered the top note so it more closely mirrors the frame. I just cut it in half and fastened the ribbon over the middle.

I love this card. It is simple and pretty, and only uses the word from a Halloween set. In other words, you don't have to forget about your other stamp sets to make Halloween cards. Change the colors and the greeting and you have a great card for any occasion.

Simply Scored love!

Meet the new love in my life- Stampin'Up!'s Simply Scored. It is so much fun to use, and so much easier than the one I already have. Truthfully, this one doesn't even belong to me. It is my friend Diane's and she let me try it out before I release it to her. The groves are just the right size, the stylus has two ends so you can make large or small scores, and the markers keep you from having to mark up your ruler so you can remember where to score. I highly recommend this to you crafters.

So I must show you the card we will make in the workshop this week that I made using the Simply Scored. I was inspired by a card made by Jill Coleman at jillstamps.com. She gave instructions on how to do the accordion fold which I changed up a little to fit my card idea.

You need a piece of card stock 5 1/2 by 11". Place paper on the scoring tool long ways and score at 1 1/2" and 5 1/2". Flip the paper like a pancake then score at 3" and 8". Fold and flatten with your bone folder. Then you are ready to decorate. Now those measurements will give you a skinny card, so I added mine to the front of a regular card so the finished card measures 5 1/2" by 4 1/4".
I used the Frightful Sight DSP with Lucky Limeade and Cajun Craze card stock. The ghost is the Owl Builder punch using only the owls body and cutting off his legs :( The spiders are punched out of the paper with the 1" punch then glued to the back of the fold where the ghost are. I also used waffle paper on the back of the front fold to give the ghost a little something to peek around. The only other thing is the words on the paper from several Halloweens ago. They are perfect hidden in the fold behind the spiders.

Lace Ribbon Punch gift bag

Even though I try not to put things off until the last minute, I do, and most of the time it causes a bit of grief. This time it was a happy! I was quickly looking for a way to wrap the awesome cards I was giving my friend for her birthday, when I dreamed up this great paper bag upscale! I used Stampin'Up Lace Ribbon Border punch.
Look how easy it is to do...

First you fold the bag on the front so it will fit into the punch.

Then you slide it into the punch right up to the crease that begins the side of the bag.

Now you are ready to fill with tissue paper, tea light, or put your stack of cards in a cello bag and drop it in!

You can cut the bag any height to get the look you want or to cover your gift.

Fabric Memo Board instructions

To make this great memo board you will need a few supplies:
foam core board
batting
fabric
ribbon
brads
hot glue
scissors

You will want to start by making fabric flowers. I made strips of fabric (wide strips make wide flowers and skinny ones make small flowers) by ripping the fabric. I liked the way the frayed edges look so I made sure to rough the edges up a bit. The next step is to tie the ends together in a knot- try not to have a tail on that end. Then all yo do is twist and wrap the fabric around the knot. Go ahead and do it, then unwrap it and do it again- you will figure out how to make a flower that you like. When I say twist, I mean turn the top edge of fabric to the bottom, wrap around the knot a little then twist again.

When you figure your flower style, you may want to add a few drops of hot glue along the way to hold the flower in shape. When you are done, glue the end of your fabric under your flower. You will see that depending on the length of these strips, you may have a fat flower or a skinny one. All sizes are good!

Now you are ready to assemble your board. Wrap the batting and fabric around the foam core and glue down with hot glue.

You may have to use your imagination here since I don't have pictures.... Lay the ribbon on the diagonal and cut it long enough to wrap around to the back. You will want three strips in each direction. Here is the way I thought was the easiest way to attach the ribbon to give the best hold and puffy look... Lay out the longest pieces of ribbon so that they cross in the middle. Punch a hole with an ice pick or large needle through all layers so that the hole is open on the back. Now take a brad and stick it through all those layers and open to hold. Now you are ready to glue those two ribbon's ends down on the back making sure you get the ribbon straight and tight on the front. The other pieces will go on the same way-

Here is the view from the back. You can see the ribbons glued down and the brad poking through and opened on the back. To make this work using Stampin'Up brads, I modified it a little. It was easy to pinch the top of the SU Antique Brads off of the post. I then used strong adhesive to attach the tops to longer brads that I bought at the office supply store.

Finishing the front is easy- cut flowers with the Big Shot using Fun Flowers Bigz L dies. Mist lightly with water and crinkle up. Unwad them and let them dry. Start planning where your flowers will go and which paper flower will best accent your fabric flower, then hot glue it all together!

You will love the way your board turns out- great for your own use or as gifts.

Computer upscale

Stampin'Up! sells these really cool vinyl pieces to decorate walls, glass, vases, anything you can think of. Well one night a commercial came on for computer cases that were really cute, but my husband said I didn't have the right computer for the cuteness. So I ordered the Flower Garden Deco Elements to make my own super cute computer! When you get yours, follow the directions in the package. I changed a few things to make this one work better for me.

First, I cut up the paper so I could lay out the design to fit the top of the computer.

Then I transfered the vinyl , starting at the center and working my way out. It was much easier to transfer in smaller pieces rather than the way it is packaged.

The stems are where I want them...

So I added the flowers. I love my very stylish laptop!

Card Organizer Workshop

I am excited to try something new this summer. Instead of having the regular stamping workshop that I host once a month, I am hosting a Project Workshop. The first one is next week. We are making a card organizer. I chose this first project for selfish reasons- I can never keep up with birthdays. This is the answer! Please join me for this handy project.

This card was inspired by SU demonstrators, Robin Merriman and Tonya Bowers. It is very simple and easy to adapt to any occasion. Start with a Whisper White card base. Layer Basic Black and Daffodil Delight cs. On another layer of Whisper White, stamp the flower from Awash with Flowers in Stazon black ink. Then stamp the stems in black and the saying of your choice. Color the flowers and stems with Garden Green and Daffodil Delight markers. Layer the card together and you are done! Simple and pretty.

After all that whining I did about not getting anything on my blog- here is the card I made yesterday! It is very similar to the one a fellow demonstrator had published in our SU newsletter. It is very easy to say "I never have any ideas", so try starting with a card that you like and make it your own. I didn't have the same materials as the original, so I just used what I had!

Getting back in the groove

I had high hopes for this blog- making cards, posting pictures, sharing funny things that happen at our house, but somehow it is too hard for me to do it consistently. I really wanted to provide great information on our ski trip- mostly because I couldn't find any good info before we went. How embarrassing that the last post was April 13th right in the middle of our fun week there?
I stamped a great card yesterday but haven't taken a picture or posted any information about any stamping in weeks.
All this to say I am sorry for having such a pathetic blog! And if anyone knows an easier way to keep current- pass it on.
Now, I am going to try once again to get something going here...

Day three- already

Everyone is moving kind of slow today- I mean everyone. Breakfast was a little later, warm-ups were a little slower, and they were calling skiiers to take thier turns. I had to giggle at warm ups this morning when the Austrian kids all moaned when we were warming up. The other funny thing is the dogs. There are about four lake dogs here. They run free, cruise under the tables when we eat, and fish or swim in the lakes. The funniest thing is when they join us for warm ups. Every morning after breakfast, Ann leads a warm up with music. As soon as she turns on the music Frankie and Amber run over and start playing with each other. They wrestle, growl and frisk all over everyone's towels. Ann says they do it every morning.

This morning I went to the physical therapist with Patrick. He is from Sweden and has been skiing and working here for about 8 weeks. He hurt his elbow and needed another session with the therapist. I struggled through the night with side pain, then had to get David to help me out of the bed. I knew I would feel better if someone could poke around and give me a little clue as to what I may have done. Sure enough the therapist says I pulled my oblique and the intercostal on my left side. I feel sure it happen when they were yanking me out of the water yesterday. She gave me some heat and stem, then did a little deep tissue work. It does feel better. I will not ski today (or jump), and see how it goes tomorrow. I am thinking I may save myself for tennis. Baily and I made a deal that if I can we will jump together tomorrow.

Jonathan said, "your all over the place out there. Your hands are way up here, your working too hard- what are you doing?' But he said it with an acent so it was all good!

If you look at these pictures compared to Alex's you can see how terrible my form is. I need to lean more forward, weight in the front leg, relax my arms, lead with my hips, blablabla.

Today I pulled a muscle in my obliques- it hurts to take a breath. I hope that the ice I have been putting on it and Advil from the Zachery Walmart will ease the pain and allow me to ski tomorrow. If not I will have to write down all my ski tips and focus more on my jumping. Josh said I should have a go! Really everyone thinks I should try. David has not agreed to it yet.

Blair at Bennett's ski school Day2

Blair has taken to the wakeboard and is improving with every run. He is getting lots of great tips from the instructors as well as another student who is doing wirlly birds and flips. He was an instructor here before and is really good about giving advice.

Alex at Bennett's Day 2

Alex has found his new love- slalom skiing. The guys here -especially Brad, have discovered that Alex is a natural. He enjoyed two hard runs today, and by the pictures you can see he has perfect form.

Day one

We have all had a run or two on the lake. David statred us out on the wakeboard, and even though the guy before him was doing flips, this old man did a great job!

Alex went next on the knee board. It didn't take long before he was facing backwards- I bet he will get lots of tricks under his belt before the week is out.
After Alex, Blair took his turn on the wakeboard. He looked great!

Next was my turn. The drivers changes out the boat to pull skiiers throught the slalom course. I was a little stiff at first, but loosened up by the second pass. Their tips were very helpful.

We had a break for lunch which is prepared for us and waiting when the dinner bell rings. Then we will take up to two more runs this afternoon.
I have already had my Advil so maybe I can comb my hair tonight. If not it won't matter- it is very laid back here and no one really cares.

My week at ski school

This is my family's log about our stay is at Bennetts waterski school in Baton Rouge. Last summer I suggested to David that we find a waterski school for Blair to hone his skills at running the course on Smith Lake. David said he had wanted to go to ski school since he was 16years old and if Blair went he was going too! Here we are. I have to admit, I am totally out of my element here. Among our school mates there are kids (14 years or so) from Austria who are tournament skiiers. They will be slalom, trick and jumping! There is a family from Sweden. I don't know much about them yet except I heard the dad say he had back trouble and wouldn't be skiing- he may be my friend for the week. There is another guy who used to work here- back for a visit. At the orientation meeting, they asked us to write what we can do, and our goals for the week. This is my list:
1. I can get up on one after a few times, and only if David, Donna or now Blair pulls me.
2. I smile really big when I ski and usually scream with joy!
My goals:
1. To make it through the slalom course at least once.
2. To have a cajun accent before I leave at the end of the week.
We will see how it goes!

Build a Blossom stamp set and Blossom Petal punch

Here is a card made with the Blossom Petal Punch featured in the Stampin'Up! mini catalog. There is a coordinating stamp set which makes building flowers a sinch! I was inspired by a card made by Rita Wright, another SU demonstrator. The important things I learned from this card are:

1. Run the card stock through the Big Shot with the embossing folder first then fold in half and score. Embossing the paper changes the size and shape just enough to throw of that clean fold.

2. Dying the white ribbon with reinkers gives a cool variation in the ribbon.

3. The Framed Tulips folder is beautiful, but getting a clean, centered image is a trick. I found the best place for the paper to be in the folder then added tape to the outside of the folder so I can line up the paper each time to get a centered embossing on each card.

I hope this helps when you try using your Framed Tulips Embossing Folder.

Back to Baics workshop

I have been working on simple cards to teach at my workshop this week which is designed to teach new stampers how to stamp. I had no idea it would be so hard to come up with basic stamping cards that looked great. I was so happy to come up with this one. It is very easy.

To make this card: Flight of the Butterfly stamp set
Card Stock: Whisper White, Wild Wasabi, Marina Mist
Ink: Peach Parfait, Tangerine Tango. Wild Wasabi
pom pom trim, 1 3/8 square punch, 1 1/4 square punch, butterfly punch,Perfect Polka Dots embossing folder.

Love Ya Inlaid

This is one of the cards we are making at our workshop this month. It is using the inlaid method where you mesh paper together by running it through the Big Shot in an embossing folder.

To make this card, emboss the chocolate chip card stock with clear embossing powder. Punch hearts out of card stock and decorative paper. Lightly glue everything to the white background- here is where it gets fun! Run the white piece with hearts and decorative paper strip through the Big Shot with the Top Note die to cut the shape. Then run the shape through again with the Lattice embossing folder. Your shape comes out looking like one piece of paper! Its so cool! This is one of my favorite set from the new Mini occasions catalog. It took me a long time to get the card the way I wanted it. It always amazes me how color can make or break a card.

This is one of the cards we made in our last workshop. It is almost exactly like the one in the Stampin'Up! catalog with a few exceptions. I added the waffle paper as a frilly edge. At first I wasn't sure what to do with it, but once I started playing with it, the ideas started to flow! It is currently in the SU mini catalog.

To make this card:
Paper: Crumb Cake, Cherry Cobbler, Very Vanilla, Old Olive
Ink: Crumb Cake, Old Olive, Versa Mark
Accessories: Silver embossing powder, SU rhinestones, 1 1/4" striped ribbon- old olive, Antique brad, large oval punch, Waffle Paper
Secrets: Stamp background with Crumb Cake ink for a soft look. Emboss the tree with silver embossing powder, then put on a few rhinestones. (These are great because they come with a sticky backing!) Pinch pleat the waffle paper down the torn edge of the vanilla piece. Cut the ribbon in half and fray the edge, then pinch in the back of the brad, then use the brad as usual. The punched ovals are the same size, just off set a little.

I have been in the craft room working on cards for the next workshop- (Sept. 30th or Oct. 1st- let me know if you want to come), and I got an idea for a spinner card. Then I got another idea...they are so simple and so fun, I think I could make these all day.

On the first one I used Stampin'Up! Designer series paper Wicked Fun.www.dawne.stampinup.net/catalogs

The rub on is from last years Halloween supplies. The eyeball is punched with the 1 3/8th and 1 1/4 circle punches, then I drew the bloodshot lines. Another stamper had the idea to use a spider web stamp- it looked great. When you tilt the card from side to side the eyeball rolls across the card! Love it!

Have you seen the owl punch in the Stampin'Up! catalog? If you trim off the feet and turn him upside down it is a ghost shape! I added some black holes from my hole punch and made him shimmy across the front when you tilt it side to side. The wed folder from the Holiday Mini catalog www.dawne.stampinup.net/catalogs embossed the black card stock, then I lightly brayerd with the craft white ink.

Love the Long Fellows

The Stampin 'Up! hostess set, Long Fellows, is one of my favorite new sets. I think the animals are so cute- even my boys love this set and want to see the cards I make with it!
This one was made with some old pattern paper I found that had great colors in it. Then I went with Marina Mist and Poppy Parade to pop off the Crumb Cake background. Rounding the corners o everything seemed to fit with the cute whale!
We are making other cards with this set at my workshop this week. Please come!

Last workshop

This is one of the cards we made at the last workshop. It is the combination of several great ideas. Even though the colors are a little funny, it is Rich Razzelberry card stock embossed with the Elegant Bouquet folder then cut into triangles. The butterflies came from the embossolite folder. The flower is felt cut on the Big Shot with the Blossom Party die. To tie the ribbon, run the ribbon up from the bottom of the flowers. Tie a loose knot in the ribbon, and run the ribbon back down thru the same hole. The knot is the flower center, and the ends are the 'leaves'.

We will stamp again at the end of this month. July 29th and 30th . Please let me know if you want to come.

Cleaning out the closet

So you know I love the Flower die cut - this one I made with old shirts! I was cleaning out my closet and enjoying the big pile of old, outgrown, or tacky clothes that I was getting rid of when I looked at the fabric that some of the clothes were made of. I snatched a few out of the pile and took them to the craft room. This flower is from a cotton shirt that never really fit right, and an eyelet skirt that I shouldn't have been wearing anyway. (Stacy and Clinton would have put me in the 360 and said some mean things!) All in all I think my clothing is better suited on the front of this card!

Stampun'Up! Flower Folds die cut

I love this die cut and will post several cards using these flowers! This card was a long time in the making because I really wanted to try a black card and couldn't find the right combo of colors and design to keep it 'happy'. I was working on getting cards together for a workshop and this combo fell into place! The flowers are cut out with cameo coral and vellum which was dry embossed with a swirly pattern. The Medallion stamp is embossed with white embossing powder on black card stock. I love the way this card popped when the polka dotted brad was added.

So while I was playing around trying to come up with a million ways to use vellum, I came up with this card. Really I was cleaning up and used scraps I had been playing with all day. The bird is embossed in silver powder then colored on the back, cut out and mounted to the card. The flowers on the left of the card are stamped with Stays on and colored with marker. Then the vellum is torn. I think the beauty of this card is the soft colors and flowing composition. Don't you love it too? (Please ignore the shadow on the card- you will never be able to duplicate that!)

Side step card measurements

Here are the measurements for the side step card we made at the last workshop. Remember these measurements are a little different than others you may see, but my goal was a card that folded flat to go in an envelope. Score the paper at 4 1/8th on the 2 inch side (This is half of the whole piece of card stock. Also the 2 inch width can be changed to any measurement). Score the other side at 1", 1 3/4", 3 1/8", 4 1/2", and 6 3/8".

Stampin'Up! Ornament Punch

Here is a great alternative use for your ornament punch. Cut the bottom off (or punch on the edge of the paper) and make a vase! I first stamped the stems overlapping just enough to make them fit in the vase opening. You can cover a world of mistakes with the paper vase, so don't worry too much is yours are not perfect. The colors on this one are very pleasing. Sahara Sand card base and Soft Suede for the layering- and ribbon.

I love this bird punch! This card is fun to make using scraps of paper then modified any way. I added circle punches, dry embossing, and clear embossing. You could also use rub ons, stamped images, textures paper...The sky is the limit!

We made a form of this card at the last workshop. I just changed it around a little to see what would happen! The Sending Love Specialty paper is from Stampin'Up!'s occasions mini catalog. I love the sparkles in the paper- very subtle. The rest of the card is just punches and a greeting that can be anything- this one is a great Valentine if you need.

The flower is made by cutting a circle, folding the pieces and layering together. Finish with a brad- it looks great!Look for more cards to comes soon.

I am way behind on posting Christmas cards. This year I am trying very hard to actually mail cards out! Last year I got a call from Aunt Betty saying the last picture she had of the boys was from 2006! I got in trouble! This card is so simple and really pretty. The secret is stamping the swirly and embossing with clear EP. Roll over the embossed image with the brayer. Wipe away the excess ink and trace along the image with a darker marker. It really makes the image pop. I brayered with Bordering Blue then used the same color marker. The ornament is stamped with the Delightful Decorations stamp set and punched with the punch, then attached with dimensionals in the hole on the front of the card- so it kind of pops out of the front! Check back for more cards in the coming days! They are made- just not posted.

Fun Halloween cards

One of the best things about Halloween (my favorite holiday) is that it is so fun, silly, off the wall...It is a time to let your guard down and go for the gusto. So I did with my cards. I pulled some fun, bright cardstock, used the Twick or Tweet stamp set from the Stampin'Up mini catalog, and went to town. There is nothing super special about either card, but the use of paper piecing (the dog), layering images, (the web and ghost on the yellow circle background), and oversized circles, gives these cards huge personality! Happy Halloween- have some silly fun!

I went out of my comfort zone and used Always Artichoke card stock- and I like the results. It would be hard to ruin a card with that cute little bird!

Bring back mulberry paper

I love this set, Nature's Nest. I thought the feather was begging to be done in rich colors, and when I found an old piece of mulberry paper, the plan came together! I ran the Bermuda Bay card stock thru the big shot with a texture plate- it is very subtle- too subtle if you ask me. Then I layered Soft Suede and Very Vanilla. The Thanks is hand written and fits in the word window perfectly! (I have trouble finding stamps that will fit in the word window punch). Thanks for looking, now I am going to work on the turtle in the set which is what I set out to do and got a little distracted!

I have been in the craft room all day! I told you I loved this medallion stamp- and here it is featured on a card stamped in Soft Suede on a Cool Caribbean background. The greeting is stamped on Very Vanilla. The finishing touch is the satin ribbon tied in a neat knot! I am really sad that of all the great ribbon Stampin'Up! has, there is no colored satin ribbon. Any one know a good source?

Back to school!

I think I am different from other moms- I like it when my kids go back to school. I don't consider myself a mother that dotes all over my boys. I do think they are great, funny, smart, well behaved kids (most of the time). Summer has been really busy. I made sure the boys were well enough involved that they were not bored and hanging around the house begging for stuff. It was up to me to get them to and from the fun activities which means I spent most of my summer behind the wheel. I think they enjoyed their activities, I know they weren't ready to go back to school, but I sure was. Now I get to do some of the things I enjoy with out leaving in the middle to go pick someone up! Please don't get me wrong, I am not complaining- just stating a fact- boys and their mothers need some time apart! I just got this medallion stamp from Stampin'Up! and I love it! This is simply stamped on the card front and then a second stamped on a scrap of paper in Soft Suede and cut out. The greeting is framed with the top note punch. The satin ribbon is faboo- got to find some more of that!
Now that the guys are back to school, I am looking forward to more stamping- join me!

Frances does it again!

This is a copy of the beautiful card Frances showed me the other day. The paper is 12x4, and the butterflies are stamped on the crease then cut out on the inside of the crease. You can see how it works on the open to inside shot. The paper on the inside is SU's new decorative paper which leaves a great space for journaling or adding a greeting. I got excited about getting this one in the mail and wrote on it before I took the picture.

10 Years with Stampin'Up!

Today I received my 10 year anniversary pen from Stampin'Up! (complete with two little diamonds!) I knew I had been with them for a long time, but 10 years is huge!

I started doing SU when I went to a demonstration with a friend, and she said "you could do that"- and she was right. Stamping and paper play are my favorite things to do. I started off with a bang and did demonstrations all the time. People loved the product and the concept. After several years, my enthusiasm petered a little, and it became increasingly harder to get out of the house at night with sports, school functions and David traveling. I decided to quit doing demonstrations outside of my home and host a workshop at my house. This was so much easier for me, and I think my customers liked it too. As I celebrate my 10 years selling SU, I reflect on the friend I have made, the things I have learned, and the importance of hanging in there!

This card looks a whole lot better in person- but I worked on it, and I am determined to post on my blog, so just use your imagination. I am always stumped when it comes to little stamps and how to make them work without shrinking the paper. I tried going bold with color and size. The Melon Mambo is folded and then cut to form a little ruffle. I punched dots from sticky paper and added glitter for a big sparkle. The tiny stamp is colored and layered on a larger Crushed Curry square then punched with a hole punch. The card background is Confetti White which gives the card just a little more texture. I think the little stamp looks pretty important in the end! Good Job.

Stamping Workshop Sneek Peek

Here is a set of cards that we are going to make at the workshop this week. They are gift card size. I ran the background through the Big Shot (which I love) with the Dotted Swiss embossing plate. The white section is the Top Note die cut, cut in half. The fruit is colored with markers then stamped, and cut out. Then I just added an embellishment to give it a finished look.
I like the finished product, and I never have a card when I need it (don't ask) so these will be nice to have on hand.

Fireballs go to State

We are home from a great vacation. We started out in New Mexico and ended up in Mobile! The boys and I decided to write a trip review because we did a few off the beaten path things and wanted to share. Look for that to come.
My tennis team, the Fireballs, played in the state tennis tournament this past weekend. It was a huge learning experience for me, and I think the rest of the newbies that were on my team. We knew it was going to be hot, but I am not sure any of us were really ready for it. It wasn't even as hot as it usually is in Mobile!
I was so nervous playing the first match. Sometimes I get all jittery before I play. That wasn't even the case this first match. I was zoned out. I think I was so interested in what all was going on around me. The team we played took long breaks, which does nothing for my ADD mind. As a result, Rhonda and I got beat, 6-1, 6-4. This was the team to beat, and afterwards several people congratulated Rhonda and me for putting up such a fight.
Our next match was Friday morning. I took a by and played hostess to my team members who played hard. No one on our team should hang their heads. I hope we all remember this is the best of the teams from each of their cities- there are no easy teams to play!
I played again on Sat. afternoon with EmilyW. We struggle the first match then came back to win in the second 7-5. I think we both petered out in the heat and lost the tie breaker 10-5. I had nothing left at the end of the game! However, I was very pleased with the way we played.
The last match for our team was Sat. morning. The team we played was supposedly the best team at the tourny, and their average age was 20! Rhonda and I played again, and she was looking for a state win! I must admit that I really wanted to win one match, but was not confident. We played well, found our grove late in the first set, and lost the set 6-3. The second set was a different story, and we can from behind to a 7-5 win. The tie break was hard and nerve racking. All the others had finished playing and everyone was watching us battle it out with the cute girls from Tuscaloosa. Rhonda and I got behind, and I thought our nerves were going to get the best of us. We battled- I must say I was playing the best tennis of my life. We came back to win 13-10! A huge victory for the underdogs! I think I will enjoy that win for a long time.
State was a trip. It is hot, intense, nerve racking..., but in the end it is just tennis, and I am at home today with dirty dishes in the sink, laundry, and grass up to my knees (at both houses!). But I know I can tackle all that- cause I beat the youngies on the court and won a match at State!

Mother's Day

I have been feeling ceative, and itching to do something in my craft room. Since the boys are making all the meals today, and I am caught up on laundry, I had a little time to play! I whipped this one up in about 3 minutes! I don't even know what the stamp set is, but I loved the shapes of the flowers. I stamped Pixie Pink, Yoyo Yellow, and Green Galore on glossy paper for strong color. Then layered green galore paper with pixie pink after scalloping the edge. A smartly tied bow- and I am done. Quick, simple and multi-purpose! Love it!

I really like this card. It is similar to one in the Stampin'Up! catty. I rub-ons, Chocolate chip and Old Olive ink. Then I just stamped and dry embossed circles and flowers. I am going to use this one for a thank you note for my sweet neighbor who brought us a yummy pound cake.

I banned myself to the craft room today to get some cards ready for my workshop (in two days). I am pretty pleased with the results.
This card is stamped on Sahara Sand with clear embossing powder. The squares are punched out of decorative paper and attached to the So Saffron cs which was punched with the scallop punch. The flower was stamped and cut out with my new circle cutter- nice! Since I am having a small group, I am letting them use the fancy brads I have been saving!
This card was a huge stretch for me, but fun. I masked and stamped a bouquet of flowers, then a few extra to cut out and pop up. Then it was a matter of painting the flowers with the aqua painter. I cut everything out and layered with decorative paper on Groovy Guava card stock. The greeting could be changed for any occasion (except Nascar)

I have officially broken down my craft room and moved most of the stuff to the new house. David and I moved all the cabinetry last night. I am too anxious to get to work setting up the new craft room, but am the only one. I am trying to learn patience. I feel like I cannot do anything at the old house because it is clean and ready for a Realtor at any moment, and I have nothing to do at the new house because nothing is ready to move into. I am terrible at doing nothing!

...seen anything so pathetic looking? Domino was barking his ferocious bark this morning. I went to look and see what the commotion was all about, and this is what I saw in our backyard. Alex snapped some great pictures, and we called Animal Services. Because it is Sunday, the police came (two cars!). He reported that this is a mangy coyote. He also gave us permission to shoot it if we are threatened, but we will not tell Blair that!

I forced myself to make a card today. It wasn't that I didn't want to, it was more like there hasn't been any ME time in a really long time. Even though I had to totally ignore my family- I think it was worth it. This cute card will be one of the 12 cards we will make at the workshop at the end of the month. I like the simplicity of this one and the colors are great- Regal Rose, Certainly Celery, Brocade Blue, and Pretty in Pink.

How embarrassing that the last time I posted the title was Happy Thanksgiving! I hope everyone had a great Christmas. Mine was busy, fun, stressful, too quick. School started back today, but Alex got the tummy bug and had to stay home with me today. He stayed at home and I ran errands!

I don't think I have posted this card. We made this one at the last workshop. The swoshes are stamped with versamark and embossed with white embossing powder. This gives a good white color for the background. I used the brayer to roll Chocolate chip ink over the embossing and then wiped off the excess ink. The card is made with Chocolate Chip, Baja Breeze, and glossy white card stock. Stamping guru, Jennifer M., suggested the leaf half ink stamped on the Thinking of You- It added the perfect touch!

This is the cutest card and I cannot figure out how to turn it around! I got the idea from the SU publication. It uses the scallop punch shape folded into the turkey feather shape! All the parts are punched out. I thought he was the cutest thing- wouldn't he be a great place card at you Thanksgiving table? Don't get a crick in your neck!

I really like this card! It is made of Kraft paper, Basic Black, Very Vanilla, and a Decorative paper SU put out a while back. It was the best paper (red and vanilla) and I would love more! The ribbon and Spare Parts brad (from the Lobby) make this simple, any occasion card complete. Please ignore the fact that no matter how hard I tried, I could not get any of the pieces of paper to go on straight! I don't usually have that problem, but today I just had to give up!

Color Inspiration #26

I am so excited to participate in the color challenge . The colors are really nice and playful, so I had a fun time putting all the colors on the card with some fun shapes. I ordered a SU die to see if I could get it to work in the Cuttlebug. After a few tries and a broken plate, I got it to cut! First, I fed the paper thru the sticker maker, then thru the Cuttlebug, and it made the perfect addition to the card! The picture isn't the greatest- it was getting dark when I took the picture. I like this card- it is simple and shiny, and appropriate for any situation.

I am working on cards for my end of the month workshop and to sell in an upcoming craft bazaar. I came up with this one last night and totally love it! The design is a copy of Angela Jones I found on Splitcoast stampers. Then I mixed up the colors with Baja Breeze, Certainly Celery, Almost Artichoke, Very Vanilla, and discontinued SU paper- The card is very soft and restful looking. Even though I tried to alter the photo, I don't think the pic gives you the soft feel of the colors.

My boys are camping this week end, so my plans are to stamp all day! Keep checking back for more ideas!

Color Inspiration 22

I took a break from picking faucets, doors, brick and shingles, and thinking about how I want the cabinets to look to play in the color inspiration at www.kwernerdesign. It was a relief. Check out the house progress. At first I didn't really like the card I stamped. but it is starting to grow on me. I was trying some background techniques, and this one is Faux Linen. The bird is stamped in Burgundy on glossy paper then sanded vertically and horizontally until the gloss is gone. Then I sponged Soft Sky over the whole paper. I think it should show up better, so next time I will try higher grit sandpaper. In person it looks much better. For my next trick I cut the back off one of the new flower brads and glued it to the top of the bow square.

I have missed blogging, but have been so busy working on house stuff and trying to get the boys moving in the right direction. I thought I would be so glad to have them back in school so I could get back to a routine ( can you say OCD?), but I have yet to get a routine that works.
I am doing a craft fair in October so I plan on having several really cute cards to sell! Keep looking!

Color Challenge #20 is to use Chocolate chip,Regal Rose, Pink pirouette, Certainly Celery, and Very Vanilla. I just got this stamp set yesterday, and love it! Those little owls just make me laugh! I tried to glitter up the little pink owl, but she lost her cuteness so I just gave her a diamond hat!

I got carried away with the challenge this time, but I have had so much fun stamping this morning. These are my new fav colors- I could do my whole new house in black, white and green and be so pleased. I cannot get enough of my Justrite monogram! Sorry for the redundancy!
When I first saw the inspiration picture, I went straight to the Kiwi Kiss for the pop of color...

...but the headboard kept jumping out at me with yellow influence...

...and just for a masculine touch, I went with the Bravo Burgundy. This card is very masculine which is hard for me- even though I live with all boys! Maybe my cards are my girly world! ...

And just for a giggle- I changed my mind in the middle of the card- turned it over, and then went back to my original backgound! No sense in wasting paper! I can cut it in half and attach it to new card stock. Once my ideas get flowing I have to take advantage of it or I will forget what I was doing!

I have been eyeing the monogram stuff for a long time, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw this Justrite stamp with interchangeable letters. I have had it one day and look what cute things I can make!

I am so thrilled to have this and am already dreaming Christmas gifts!

Here are some pics of the cards we are making at my workshop tonight. I wanted to use as many new supplies that I had, and I loved the color 'schemes' in the catty. This one is Eastern Eclectic.

I want to say that there is a good chance that these cards were direct copies of a card I saw somewhere. I feel sure the eclectic and bella are my original designs, but the other I put together so long ago (probably last week!)that I am not sure where I got the inspiration. After Becky http://www.nawlinslady.blogspot.com/ was so sweet to give me this awesome award, I completely stopped stamping! Then I felt guilty, and stamped a little something crazy today. I was visiting Splitcoaststampers, and noticed the heading on the page was with teal and brown. Just for fun I pulled Taken with Teal and Choco chip. I think the card look great! I used Doodle This stamp set, Taken with Teal, Chocolate Chip, and Kraft paper. I added a little organdy ribbon and a fancy brad!

I hope no one is offended when I don't pass on the award. The truth of the matter is I don't look at that many other blogs. I am busy building a house, shuffling boys around, and stamping as much as possible. The few blogs that I frequent are listed already! I am so computer illiterate, that when I do adventure out on the web, I usually get lost! I appreciate the kudos, and I love the comments left on my blog- the whole world wide blog thing blows me away-(someone left a comment in French!) Please continue to visit.

I couldn't stand it. The more I looked at the first card I made for the CI, the more I didn't like it! In the middle of the night I was fretting over that card. The background of the original card was so pretty that I literally ripped it apart and reused it. I like the new version, but it is way different than the cards that I usually make.

Here is my interpretation of the color inspiration. I like the colors together so much I am working on another card for the August workshop! The Roses in Winter are stamped with Rose Red and Regal Red. Sage Shadow is used for the leaves. I painted the chipboard letter with the Sage Shadow marker then painted over with white paint. It is a slight tint of the sage. The polka dots are stamped with a pencil eraser. I punched the sage paper with the new scallop punch that will be in the new catalog!
This card is way girly than I am use to, so I tried to go shabby chic. I am not quite sure I got what I wanted.
